Tigers Split Pair at Golden West Invite #2;

HUNTINGTON BEACH -- Splitting another pair of games at the Golden West Invitational Tournament #2, the Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers men's water polo team won, 17-15, over the West Valley College (WVC) Vikings but then lost, 17-12, to the Los Angeles Valley  College (LAVC) Monarchs Saturday (Oct. 24) at Golden West College's pool.

In its opener against WVC, Riverside led, 6-5, after the first quarter, 10-9 at halftime, but trailed, 15-14, after three quarters before outscoring the Vikings, 3-0, in the final stanza.

RCC freshman driver Lazar Raca (Belgrade, SERBIA) -- who is pictured -- led the Tigers with six goals, two assists and four steals against WVC. Freshman utility player Kyle Christian (Riverside / M.L. King HS '15) added three goals, one assist and two steals, and freshman center Jonah Saenz (Riverside / Poly HS '15) chipped in with three goals and one assist. Freshman goalkeeper Dustin Shaw (Riverside / Poly HS '15) had 11 saves and two assists.

In the nightcap against highly regarded LAVC, the victorious Monarchs led, 4-2, at the end of the first quarter, 8-4, at halftime, and 15-9 at the end of third quarter.

RCC was paced by sophomore utility player Justin Rohn (San Bernardino / San Gorgonio HS '14) who had six goals, two assists and three steals. Christian added two goals and two assists. Shaw logged three saves for RCC.

Riverside (14-9 overall) will next compete on Wednesday, Oct. 28, when it hosts the Fullerton College Hornets in an Orange Empire Conference (OEC) game at 4 p.m.
