Tigers Split Pair in First Day of Pool Play at Golden West Invite; Will Face Pair of Second-place Teams Saturday

HUNTINGTON BEACH -- Gaining a split of a pair of games at the Golden West Invitational Tournament #2, the Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers men's water polo team won, 12-7, over the American River College (ARC) Beavers but then lost, 13-8, to the Long Beach City College (LBCC) Vikings Friday (Oct. 23) at Golden West College's pool.

In the opener against ARC, Riverside led, 2-1, after the first quarter, 5-2 at halftime and 9-3 heading into the final stanza.

RCC was paced by sophomore utility player Justin Rohn (San Bernardino / San Gorgonio HS '14) had six goals, zero assists and two steals. Freshman goalkeeper Dustin Shaw (Riverside / Poly HS '15) had seven saves and two assists.

In the nightcap against highly regarded LBCC, the victorious Vikings led, 4-0, at the end of the first quarter, 8-0, at halftime, and 12-2 at the end of third quarter.

Freshman driver Lazar Raca (Belgrade, SERBIA) had two goals, one assist and two steals against LBCC. Shaw logged eight saves for RCC.

Riverside (13-8 overall) will have a pair of tournament games on Saturday, Oct. 24; the first game will be at 11:40 a.m. against the second-place team from pool B, the second game will be at 3:10 p.m. against the second-place team from pool C.
