Tigers Men Water Poloists Win One of Four at Golden West Tournament

HUNTINGTON BEACH -- Managing a split of the day's action Saturday (Oct. 25), the Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers men's water polo squad won one of four games over the two days of competition at the Golden West College (GWC) Invitational Tournament.

In the second day of the tournament, Riverside (7-14 overall) lost, 15-13, to the Grossmont College Griffins before winning, 14-7, over the Ventura College Pirates.

Leading the Tiger offense were freshman Brandt Restad (Murrieta / Vista Murrieta HS) and fellow freshman Justin Rohn (San Bernardino / San Gorgonio HS) with seven and six goals on the day, respectively.

"We've been working all year on our composure in games and today (Saturday) we began to see it put into practice in each of the games" said RCC second-year head coach Jason Northcott. "Particularly, I'm very pleased with our poise in the 6-1 fourth quarter against Ventura."

In the first day of the tournament, Riverside lost to the Cerritos College Falcons, 8-5, and to the Los Angeles Valley College Monarchs, 21-13.

"We had some opportunities in each game to really take control, but our mistakes on the offensive end kept stalling our momentum every time we started to get on a roll", added Northcott.

In its final regular season Orange Empire Conference (OEC) game, Riverside (2-2 OEC) will visit the Fullerton College Hornets on Wednesday, Oct. 29, at 3pm.
