RIVERSIDE -- Splitting a pair of games in its own tournament, the Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers men's water polo team came "ascloseasthis" to winning both games on Saturday (Oct. 11) at the Riverside Aquatics Center on the RCC campus.

Riverside (6-8 overall) opened tournament action Saturday with a 12-11 loss to the Grossmont College Griffins. Later on Saturday, RCC pounded out a 19-10 win over the Ventura College Pirates.

"The game against Grossmont went back and forth until the end," said RCC second-year head men's water polo coach Jason Northcott. "Against Ventura, we built a 7-1 lead in the first quarter."

Against Grossmont, RCC freshmen driver Brandt Restad (Murrieta / Vista Murrieta '14) had four goals. Against Ventura, freshman Joseph Rivas (Lake Elsinore / Temescal Canyon HS) had five tallies.
