Tigers Lose Twice Friday in Own Tournament

RIVERSIDE -- Losing a pair of games in its own tournament, the Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers men's water polo team will try to change course in another pair of games scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 11, at the Riverside Aquatics Center on the RCC campus.

Riverside (5-7 overall) opened tournament action with a 16-10 loss to NorCal power Diablo Valley College (DVC) on Friday, Oct. 10, in an 8 a.m. contest. Later Friday, RCC made up a deficit, took a lead in the fourth quarter, but lost, 17-13, to the Palomar College Comets.

"RCC made up a 9-3 first half deficit, to take a fourth quarter lead, 11-10," said RCC second-year head men's water polo coach Jason Northcott. "However, the Tigers appeared to use too much energy making up that deficit and ended up losing the final period, 8-5, resulting in a 17-13 loss."

Against DVC, RCC freshmen drivers Brandt Restad (Murrieta / Vista Murrieta '14) had three goals to pace the Tigers. Restad added four assists and Chris Frazee (Corona / Corona '14) added a goal and two assists. Freshman goalie Jeremy Mariscal (Santa Ana / Jurupa Valley '14) recorded five saves.

Against Palomar, Restad had four goals and freshman Joseph Rivas (Lake Elsinore / Temescal Canyon HS) added three tallies. Mariscal logged nine saves.

In Friday's other contests, Orange Coast defeated Palomar (score unavailable), Long Beach City topped Ventura, 17-6, Citrus shaded Grossmont, 15-13 , in the morning games. In the afternoon contests, Diablo Valley blasted Orange Coast, 18-7, and Grossmont throttled Ventura, 15-8. In Friday's final game, Long Beach faced Citrus (result and score unavailable).
