Water Poloists Lose, 20-6, at L.A. Valley Friday; Sustain Second Loss to Monarchs

VAN NUYS (VALLEY GLEN) -- The Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers men's water polo squad absorbed its second loss in less than a week to the Los Angeles Valley College (LAVC) Monarchs.

Riverside (5-4 overall) lost, 20-6, at LAVC on Friday (Sept. 26) after sustaining a 23-9 loss at the Cuesta Tournament last Saturday (Sept. 20).

"We played really well early versus one of the top teams in the state," said RCC second-year head coach Jason Northcott, "but then we ran out of gas and allowed ourselves to get pushed around a bit by a team that has a lot more size than we do,"added Northcutt.

After trailing, 5-2, at the end of the first quarter, the Tigers pulled to within 7-5 midway through the second period, but then surrendered three goals and trailed, 10-5, at halftime. LAVC blanked RCC, 10-0, in the third stanza.

Freshman center Trevor Tripp (Beaumont / Beaumont '14) scored three goals for RCC, and freshman driver Mark Morin (Temecula / Chaparral '14) scored twice. Freshman goalie Jeremy Mariscal (Santa Ana / Jurupa Valley '14) had nine saves for the Tigers.

"Trevor Tripp played very well at two-meter offense," concluded Northcutt.

The Tigers, 2-0 in Orange Empire Conference (OEC) action, return to OEC action on Wednesday, Oct. 1, when they visit the Orange Coast College Pirates in a 3 p.m. game.
