RCC Water Poloists Improve to 2-0 in OEC with 17-9 Win at Santa Ana Wednesday

SANTA ANA -- Extending a tenuous first-quarter lead into a sizable one at halftime, the Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers men's water polo squad went on to defeat the host Santa Ana College Dons, 17-9, in an Orange Empire Conference (OEC) game.

Riverside (5-3 overall, 2-0 OEC) led only 5-3 after the first quarter, but then outscored the Dons, 7-1, for a 12-4 lead at the half.

RCC freshmen drivers Brandt Restad (Murrieta / Vista Murrieta '14) and Chris Frazee (Corona / Corona '14) each had four goals to pace the Tigers. Restad added four assists and Frazee added two assists. Freshman goalie Jeremy Mariscal (Santa Ana / Jurupa Valley '14) recorded nine saves.

"In a small, confined pool, the offense was able to open some shooting lanes and capitalize on the scoring opportunities," said RCC second-year head coach Jason Northcott. "Brandt Restad showed solid leadership in the pool on both offense and defense."

The Tigers return to action on Friday, S6ept. 24, when they visit the Los Angeles Valley College (LAVC) Monarchs in a nonconference game beginning at 1 p.m.
