Riverside Finds Success at Bryan Clay Invite, Mt. SAC Relays

Riverside City College had a small group of athletes compete at the elite Bryan Clay Invitational Friday, before competing as a larger group at the Mt. San Antonio College Relays on Saturday.

Edward Ta'amilo won the discus throw Friday with a toss of 54.37 meters, beating out several NCAA Division I athletes. Isaiah Butler took sixth overall, posting a throw of 48.45 meters, while Christian Burroughs took ninth with a toss of 47.57 meters. All three finished first, second, third, respectively, on Saturday as well, despite not throwing as far.

Burroughs also took 16th overall in the hammer with a mark of 48.02 meters, which was the fourth-best throw in his flight.

Anthony Ruiz grabbed third in his heat of the 800-meter race after clocking in at one minute, 56.24 seconds, while Jack Slavin took fourth in his heat with a time of 1:57.60.

On Saturday, Ta'amilo won the hammer throw with a mark of 51.16 meters, while Burroughs was right behind at 48.75 meters. Adam Torres took fourth with a toss of 46.27 meters.

Burroughs won the shot put (15.91 meters), while Ta'amilo took second (15.60 meters) and Justice Brown grabbed third (15.11 meters).

Less than a meter separated Xavier Rideout (45.08 meters) and Justin Stevens (45.02 meters) in the javelin as they took seventh and eighth, respectively.

Quinten Flowers finished runner-up in the triple jump after clearing 14.06 meters and grabbed seventh in the long jump with a mark of 6.54 meters.

Bryson Williamson finished third in the high jump (1.96 meters), while Zachary Owens (1.90 meters) was right behind in fourth.
