Willis Leads Tigers at OEC Decathlon Championship

Riverside City College's Samuel Willis won the 2024 Orange Empire Conference Decathlon Championship, finishing with a score of 5665 points.

The Tigers also saw Andrew Cancino take third (5090), while Lexi Vela placed fifth (4666) and Xavier Harvey took sixth (4632). All four men grabbed 3C2A 'B' marks, with Willis automatically qualifying for the State Championship.

Willis took first in the 100-meter dash (11.31 seconds), long jump (6.23m), high jump (1.71m), discus (30.99m), and pole vault (4.00m) to help secure his championship.

Cancino came in first in the shot put, hurling a throw of 12.55 meters and tied with Willis for first in the high jump (1.71m). He also took first in the javelin with a throw of 42.04 meters and took second in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 16.98 and in the discus with a throw of 29.68 meters.

Harvey was right behind Willis in the long jump with a mark of 5.91 meters, came in second in the shot put with a mark of 10.20 meters, and also tied for first in the high jump with his fellow Tigers (1.71m).

Vela took second in the 1500-meter run, clocking in at 5:00.12.
