Antonio Mitchell Signs with Arizona State University

Freshman track & field standout Antonio Mitchell was a special talent that was recognized statewide. After leaving burn marks on the track during his inaugural season for the Riverside City College men's track & field program, Mitchell put pen to paper to attend Pac-12's Arizona State University.

Mitchell was gaining attention from many premiere Division I powerhouses and decided to bring his skills to Arizona State. In just one year under Head Coaches Damien Smith and Jim McCarron, Mitchell was shaped into a dominant force in the sprinting events.

He specializes in the 100 M where he currently holds the third-best mark in RCC history with a time of 10.31. His time was set in a meet against Division I opponents in CSU Fullerton, Pepperdine and UC Riverside. His mark ranked as the third-fastest time in the state. Furthermore, he competed in the 200 M, the 4 X 100 Relay, and the 4 X 400 M Relay.

He landed on the podium at the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) State Championships in the 100 M and the 200 M. He reeled in the gold medal in the 100 M with a time of 10.47 backed by a third-place finish in the 200 M at a clip of 21.41.

Mitchell joins prestigious RCC Alumni in his transition to Arizona State. Chris Bernard ('10), a former star triple jumper for the Tigers, joined the Sun Devils and went on to become a two-time All-American and was once ranked second in the nation. He currently ranks fourth in the nation following a sixth-place finish in the 2017 Track & field Championship in London.
