Tyler Lufkin Qualifies for State Championships

Four members of the Riverside City College men's track and field team competed in the Southern California Heptathlon and Decathlon Championships over the past two days hosted by Cerritos College. Sophomore Tyler Lufkin highlighted the quartet and placed sixth overall with a total of 5535 points. With his finish, he has qualified for the state meet which will occur in May.

Lufkin topped his previous showing in March by approximately 800 points. His enhanced point spread is the strongest in RCC track & field history. He acts as the first Riverside qualifier this season. 

Lufkin earned his largest points total in the 1500M where he earned a time of 4:21.07 to take first place. At the time of the race, he was sitting in ninth place in the overall stadnings. His finish bumped him up three spots in the standings.

He continued on to earn a time of 11.63 in the 100M to earn him 725 total points. The track events continued to bode well for Lufkin as he crossed the finish line with a clip reading 52.19 in the 400M.

The field events deemed strong as well with his best mark coming in the Javelin with a toss of 141' 6". Furthermore, he placed second in the Discus with a chuck of 94' 6".

Other notable finishes include Deryhan Harris (9th place | 5,406 pts.), sophomore Jacob Shade (12th place | 4,794 points), and freshman Justin Reed (13th place | 4,696 points.)
