Tigers Perform Well at Southern California Multi-event Championships last Tuesday & Wednesday

SAN DIEGO -- The Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers Men's Track and Field team had a great two days at the Southern California Multi-event Championships at San Diego Mesa College last Tuesday and Wednesday (Apr. 7-8).

The Tigers qualified two athletes, Jherrel Charles and Cole Hicks, to the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) State Championships, May 15th & 16th at the College of San Mateo.

The Tigers have had at least one decathlete qualify for the state championship in each of the last nine seasons. Jherrel Charles took second in the event with a score of 6,168 points and Cole Hicks took sixth with a score of 5,636 points. Both marks are personal bests. Their placement secured 11 points for the Tigers in the Southern California Championship meet on May 9.

"We took five decathletes to the Southern California Multi-event Championships, all of whom are freshmen," said RCC head men's track and field coach Jim McCarron. "I was very pleased with their performances. Both Jherrel and Cole did a great job qualifying for state, but the great news is they have a lot of room to improve," added McCarron.

The Tigers will be competing this Saturday, Apr. 11, at the Mount San Antonio College Invitational in Walnut.
