Bailey's 6,690 points Shatters Conference Record at OEC Heptathlon & Decathlon Championships

FULLERTON -- Phillip Bailey compiled a conference-record 6,690 points to highlight the Orange Empire Conference (OEC) Heptathlon and Decathlon Championships March 13-14 at Fullerton College.

Bailey (pictured on the right), a sophomore from Yucaipa HS, shattered the previous OEC record of 6,520 points set in 2000 by Sheldon Davis of Santa Ana College.

"Phillip (Bailey) is one of the best overall athletes I have coached while at RCC." said RCC head track and field coach Jim McCarron. "He has the ability to do something this season that has not been done in a generation at the community college level, which is to score 7000 points in a decathlon."

Also on the men's side, the second-place finisher was Winston Lawson of Orange Coast College whose total, 6557 points, would have also broken the conference record. Bailey and Lawson's marks rank them number one and two in the state, according to McCarron.

On the women's side, RCC's Taylor Coffelt (4,483 points) and Tricia Cervantes (4,141 points) repeated as first- and second-place finishers for the second year in a row. Sabrina Howe from Orange Coast College (4,123 points) also had a strong day capturing third place.
