Tigers Take Two, But Lose First Meet since 2011

RIVERSIDE -- Posting a pair of wins in a quadrangular meet, the Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers men's track and field squad lost its first meet in three years in the process, going 2-1 against three NCAA Division I universities last Saturday (March 8) at RCC's Arthur N. Wheelock Field and Stadium.

Riverside defeated the Cal State Fullerton Titans, 101-48, and the Pepperdine Waves, 128-9. Against Long Beach State, the 49ers prevailed, 80-72.

Also reported by RCC head coach Jim McCarron: "Some highlights included Just'n Thymes running the one of the fastest times in the nation, and the fastest time in the state, in the 100 (10.18) and 200 (20.80) meters.  He also ran a 45.7 split in the 4x400 to lead the Tigers to the fastest 4x400 time in the state (3:10). 

"The 400 meters was an exciting race with Long Beach State's Michael Perez (48.10) edging out RCC's Sterling Winston (48.11) at the line.  Winston led the Tigers back in the 4x100 (40.79) with a fantastic leg to edge out the 49ers (41.08). 

"RCC went 1-2 in the high jump with both Diego Felix and Ray Owens posting personal bests of 6'8.75". 

"Long Beach's Jacob Frazier had a big day in the throws.  He won the shot (57'2") over RCC's Connor Einck (55'7") and he took second in the discus.  The 49ers Kody Robinson won the hammer with a toss of 186'0" over the Tigers' Ryan Kent (181'3"), concluded McCarron. 

The RCC heptatletes and decathletes will be at the Orange Empire Conference (OEC) multis championship this Thursday and Friday, Mar. 13-14, at Fullerton College. The remainder of the RCC squad will be competing at the Ben Brown Invite on Saturday, Mar. 15, at CSUF.
