RCC Track and Field Multi Event Championship

RCC Track and Field Multi Event Championship

The RCC heptathletes and decathletes had a fantastic showing at the Orange Empire Conference Championships on March 14 and 15.  The men took the first three spots with Jordon Morris scoring a personal best of 3606 points for the conference title in the grueling two day event that includes 10 track and field events over a two day period.  Chris  Navarro (6029 pts) and Phillip Bailey (5959pts).  Jordon ranks  fourth on RCC all-time list, Chis is 6th and Phillip is 9th.  Zack Kitterman, who was all-state in the decathlon for the Tigers in 2010was 6th with a point total of 5350.  Only the top six move on to the Southern California Hep/Dec Championships on April 9 and 10 at Cerritos College.  " I was very pleased with how the guys competed.  Zach had an elbow injury, but powered through to earn the last qualifying spot.  Phillip nailed his first decathlon with the highest freshman first decathlon mark in school history.  We have a chance to get 3-4 Tigers in the state meet in this event, and that would be huge for the team."   Cameron Pizzica(5936 pts)  and Andy Bardine (5427 pts) from Orange Coast also qualified to So Cal taking the 4th and 5th spots.  Coach McCarron

The ladies performed every bit as well as the guys did with 1-2-4 finish, and they earned a spot at the So. Cal Championships.  Their marks put them 4th, 8th and 10thon RCC all-time list.  Taylor Coffelt earned the conference title with a score of 4195 points, which was spectacular for her first ever heptathlon.  Her teammate, Tricia Cervantes, was second with a point total of 4023.  Aarianna Goshen (3875pts) placed 3rd behind a surging Tailor Dunigan (3968 pts) from Golden West. Sabrina Howe (3788 pts) and Kristi Perrotta (3272 pts) rounded out the top six.  "I was extremely pleased to see Aariana  finish the event, considering she severlyspained here ankle five days before the event.  Also, Taylor's 141'1" toss in the javelin was big for the lady Tigers because it places her second in the state in that event." Coach McCarron

The Tigers will host the RCC Open this Thursday (hammer throw) and Friday.
