Tigers lit up the state leader board at the Beach Classic Invitational

The Tigers had a great showing at the Beach Classic Invitational hosted by CSULB.

The Tigers lit up the state leader board at their first invitational of the season.  The Beach Classic Invitational was hosted by Cal State Long Beach and included teams from USC, Loyola Marymount, Cerritos College and El Camino College.  The Tigers started off strong in Friday's hammer competition with Moises Ramos throwing the second best hammer throw in the state (171'11").  "Moises is really having a strong season, and is showing signs that he can score in three throwing events at the state meet, which is a very difficult task".  Coach McCarron

Today the Tigers were victorious in both the 4x100 (41.4) and the 4x400.  Five Tigers ran under 11 seconds in the 100 meters with Louis Martin leading the way with a personal best 10.69.  In the 200 meters Just'n Thymes ran huge personal best and state leading 21.47, while three of his teammates clocked less than 22 seconds, including Louis Martin who ran 21.67.  In the 400 Sterling Winston ran 48.8 to take second, and the fastest community college time of the day.  Luis Guiterrez had the fastest community college time in the 800 meters (1:52.80).  Luis was second to former Tiger Brandon Johnson, was a qualified for the Olympic trials in that event last year .  John Guzman ran the fastest time in the state in the 5000 meters clocking a personal best of 14:36.  Jacob Porter ran a fast 54.12 in the 400 hurdles, which is the fastest time in the state for a freshman. 

The Tigers had a great day in the field as well.  Connor Einck had the second best throw in the state with a toss of 51'9".  In the long jump Nicholas Felder soared 23'7.5" to take second overall.  Chris Navarro had a huge lifetime best in the javelin with a throw of 189'0", and his teammate, Emad Shalabi also had a lifetime best of 170'11".  Both men finished in the top five at the meet.  Jonathan Barnes was a finalist in the pole vault with his best jump of the season 14'8.5".  The Tigers will be at Cal State Fullerton next week for the Ben Brown  Invitational.  The hammer throw will take place on Friday and all other events on Saturday.  Full results for the Beach Classic can be found on Directathletics.com and gocollegetrack.com.  See attached picture of Moises Ramos launching a 49'11" in the shot put.
