Track and Field Begins the Hunt for their Fifth State Championship

Today the Tigers opened the 2013 campaign with hopes of winning their fifth state title in six years.  They had a very strong showing today defeating Fullerton College 115-12 and Golden West College 119-8.  The pole vault, high jump and discus were not contested due to severe weather conditions.  Some highlights included Connor Einck's big toss of 49'7" in the shot in a down poor and Moises Ramos, Ryan Kent and Kyle Merkeley all threw over 150 in the hammer.  Chris Navarro won two events taking the 110HH in 15.03 and the javelin in 164'1".  John Guzman ran a strong 8:47 in the 3000 meters.  Anthony Ceja ran 49.46 to take the 400 meters.  Luis Gutierrez cruised to victory in both the 800 meters (1:58) and the 1500m in 4:06.  The Tigers will take on Mt. Sac on Friday, February 15 in the first ever dual meet between the two powerhouses.  "I was pleased with how this team opened the season.  We had some cobwebs, but that is to be expected for the first meet.  This team showed a lot of character through harsh conditions." Coach McCarron
