Gleb Mityurin Advances to Quarterfinals, Miles Clark Bounced in Round of 16

A handful of Tigers on the Riverside City College men's tennis team traveled to Ojai, CA to compete in the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) State Championships beginning on Thursday, April 25. Freshman Gleb Mityurin is the lone player standing as he advanced to quarterfinals, while sophomore Miles Clark ends his season in the round of 16.

Mityurin entered into the tournament ranked fifth overall and has yet to drop a single set in the individual round thus far. He cruised through the round of 64 with a 6-2, 6-0 victory against an unranked opponent. He backed his opening tournament win with a 6-0, 3-0 victory against Chabot's No. 11 Jay Pandit. He followed by ending a potential Cinderella story with a 6-0, 6-1 victory against unranked Colin Palmer of San Diego City.

Clark, who entered ranked seventh overall, fell in the round of 16 due to injury. Despite holding a strong grasp on Cerritos' no. 15 Jan Simon, he eventually retired 2-6, 6-1, 1-1 (ret.). He earned a round of 64 win against an unranked opponents at 6-2, 6-2, backed by defeating Folsom Lake's no. 10 Stephen Morley, 6-4, 6-1.

Clark and Mityurin teamed up in the doubles bracket as the fifth overall pairing and earned a pair of first round victories. They cruised through the round of 64 with a 6-2, 6-2 win, backed by defeating Foothill's no. 12 duo Justin Ip and Taiki Maeda by the final count o 4-6, 6-1, 10-4. They fell to American River's no. 12 pairing Stephen Guenard and Sam Hill 6-4, 3-2 (ret.) due to injury.

Mityurin will continue action on Saturday, April 27 in the quarterfinals against Grossmont's no. 11 Lirone Abecassis.
