Tigers Conclude CCCAA Play at Ojai; Harrell & Van Os Win Three Matches
VENTURA COUNTY -- Having one doubles team reach a bracket final, members of the Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers men's tennis team have concluded their participation in the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) South Regional and state individual championships, which were held in and around Ojai at the end of last month.
The Ojai Regional/State Championships were held from Thursday, April 27, through Sunday, April 30.
For RCC, the doubles duo of Grady Harrell and Thierry Van Os (seeded No. 13), after reciving an opening-round bye, won three matches before losing the final of the bracket (1-32 seeds). Along the way, Harrell/Van Os defeated Chabot's Dennis Cheung and Jesse Powrd, 6-1, 6-1, last Thursday (Apr. 27) before defeating Solano's J.D. Bobian and Chris Hagler, 6-3, 6-4 . last Friday (Apr. 28).
Also last Friday, Harrell and Van Os advanced after defeating No. 7 seed Kyle Le and Peter Trhac of Palomar, 6-3, 6-2. Last Saturday (Apr. 29), Harrell and Van Os lost, 6-1, 6-1, to Irvine Valley's Javier Cullejo-Vellasco and Lucas Lesoeur in the bracket final.
Elsewhere involving RCC's doubles teams, James Andra and sophomore Trent Harris won, 6-0, 6-0, last Thursday over Fresno City's Angel Carrillo and Steven Hernandez before losing, 6-2, 6-1, to Irvine Valley's Wyatt DeMullring and Chris Politiek.
RCC's Michael Hanna and Brandon Moerer lost, 6-2, 6-2, to Jacob Dvorken and Dimitrije Vukovich of College of the Desert last Thursday (Apr. 27).
In singles action involving RCC players, No. 5 seed Andra lost, 6-0, 6-1, to San Diego Mesa's Kimo Barrere last Thursday (Apr. 27).
