Paque & Voisin Lose in Quarterfinals at Ojai as Tigers' Season Concludes

OJAI -- Having one doubles tandem reach the quarterfinals (final 8) and two others reach the  "round of 16" at The 116th Ojai Invitational / California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) State Individual Championships, the Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers men's tennis team has had its season come to an end for the 2016 campaign.

The RCC doubles duo (No. 8 seed) of freshman Samuel Paque (Royan, FRANCE / Lycee Cordouan [FRANCE]) and sophomore Antoine Voisin (Papeete, FRANCE / Centre International School) reached the quarterfinals of the CCCAA State Individual Doubles Championships where they lost, 6-1, 6-1, to the No. 1-seeded doubles pair of Sam Cohen / Javi Callejo Velasco (college unknown) on Saturday, Apr. 23. The match was played at the prestigious Ojai Valley Athletic Club in Ojai.

Leading up to that quarterfinals match, after having received a bye in the "round of 128",  Paque & Voisin defeated Shane Fisher / Joel Sorman of San Diego Mesa College, 6-3, 6-4, in the "round of 64" and then defeated No. 9-seeded Eric Lofquist / Sean Miller of Diablo Valley College, 6-7 (7), 6-3, 10-5, in the "round of 32" before defeating No. 14-seeded Maab Al Jumali / Hugo Pires of Grossmont College, 7-5, 7-6 (4), in the "round of 16."

Elsewhere in doubles competition involving RCC student-athletes, after receiving a bye in the "round of 128", the No. 9-seeded duo of freshman Stanislas Bedrune (Ventabren, FRANCE / Lycee Int'l. / Georges Duby Luynes) and Victor Iove (Tournai, BELGIUM / Athenee Royale Thomas Edison) -- who are pictured -- defeated Kevin Conley / Francisco Garcia of Folsom Lake College, 6-2, 6-2, in the "round of 64" before defeating the No. 7-seeded tandem of Justin Barton / Seppi Capaul of American River College, 6-2, 3-6, 10-4, in the "round of 32."

In the "round of 16," Bedrune / Iove lost, 6-2, 7-5, to the No. 4-seeded Bruno Figlia / Scott Paz of Irvine Valley College.

Also in doubles, the RCC pair of sophomore Trent Harris (Riverside / Riverside Poly HS '14) and freshman Matthieu Tabanon (Feucherolles, FRANCE / Lycee Sonia Delaunay) defeated Robert Cardenas / Cooper Short of Reedley College, 6-0, 6-3, in the "round of 128," before losing to No. 2-seeded Nikita Katsnelson / Sasha Krasnov of Cerritos College, 6-0, 6-2, in the "round of 64."

In singles action, Paque defeated Daniel Villa Rosa of San Diego City College, 6-3, 2-6, 6-4, in the "round of 128," before losing to No. 8-seeded Tom Arias of Fresno City College, 6-2, 6-2. Bedrune defeated Shawn Morgan of Folsom Lake College, 3-6 6-3, 6-4, in the "round of 128," before losing to No. 6-seeded Ron King of Mt. San Antonio College, 6-1, 6-1.

Lastly, in the "round of 64," No. 12-seeded Euan Rajanthiran of Foothill College defeated RCC's Antoine Voisin, 6-3, 6-3.

Riverside City, the No. 7-seeded team in the SoCal Regional, finished 10-9 overall, after going 5-5 in Orange Empire Conference (OEC) action and finished in fourth place in the OEC standings. The Tigers were under the guidance of RCC first-year head men's tennis coach Thomas Yancey.
