Cerritos Decisions Riverside, 5-1, In Opening Round of SoCal Regional Dual Team Playoffs; Tigers Finish 10-9
NORWALK -- The Cerritos College Falcons, seeded No. 2, decisioned the visiting the Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers men's tennis team, 5-1, in the first round of the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) South Regional Men's Tennis Dual Team Championships Tuesday (Apr. 5).
Riverside City picked up its only point at No. 2 doubles as freshman Stanislas Bedrune (Ventabren, FRANCE / Lycee Int'l. / Georges Duby Luynes) and Victor Iove (Tournai, BELGIUM / Athenee Royale Thomas Edison) -- who are pictured -- won, 8-5.
With the win, Cerritos (23-3 overall), champions of the South Coast Conference (SCC) at 8-0, will advance to second-round action will host the No. 3-seeded Ventura College Pirates (15-2 overall, Western State Conference champion at 8-0) on Tuesday, Apr. 12. Ventura decisioned the Orange Coast College Pirates, 5-0, on Tuesday (Apr. 5).
Riverside City, the No. 7-seeded team in the SoCal Regional, finished 10-9 overall, after going 5-5 in Orange Empire Conference (OEC) action and finished in fourth place in the OEC standings. The Tigers were under the guidance of RCC first-year head men's tennis coach Thomas Yancey.
This concluded RCC's Men's Tennis Dual Team season. The Tigers finished with wins over #5 Orange Coast College and #8 San Diego Mesa.
Up next for the Tigers is the Orange Empire Conference Singles and Doubles Individual Championships. In the singles competition, sophomore Antoine Voisin (Papeete, FRANCE / Centre International School) has been awarded the #7 seed, freshman Samuel Paque (Royan, FRANCE / Lycee Cordouan [FRANCE]) has been awarded the #9 seed, and freshman Victor Iove (Tournai, BELGIUM / Athenee Royale Thomas Edison School) has been awarded the #12 seed. In the doubles portion of the tournament, the pairing of Samuel Paque and Antoine Voisin were awarded the #4 seed with their only losses coming at the hands of undefeated conference champion Irvine Valley College.
Thirteen (13) singles players and 13 doubles players representing the Orange Empire Conference will advance to the CCCAA State Championships at Ojai. The conference tournament will be hosted by Cypress College and will begin at 12 p.m. on Thursday, April 7, and conclude on Saturday, April 9.
