Tigers Vanquish Ventura, 7-2, in Non-conference Home Match Wednesday

RIVERSIDE -- In their penultimate match of the regular season, the Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers men's tennis team scuttled the visiting Ventura College (VC) Pirates, 7-2, Wednesday afternoon (April 2) at RCC's Fran Bushman Courts.

Riverside (17-4) led, 4-2, after singles play. Needing only one doubles victory to secure the match, the Tigers went out and swept doubles play to defeat the Pirates (5-6) soundly.

"Riverside played well to bring home the first victory over the perennial state powerhouse Ventura College Pirates," said RCC head coach Jim Elton.

"Freshmen David Stanko and Yann Herve continued to secure the No. 2 and 3 singles spots while dropping only three games each in their matches," added Elton.

The Tigers will return to action on Friday, Apr. 4, when they host the San Diego Mesa College Olympians (Pacific Coast Athletic Conference members) in their last regular season match at home at 2 p.m.
