Tigers Improve to 2-0 With 5-4 Non-conference Home Win Over Cerritos

RIVERSIDE -- Posting its second consecutive victory and first at home, the Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers men's tennis squad went back and forth before finally emerging with a 5-4 non-conference victory over the visiting Cerritos College Falcons Friday afternoon (Jan. 31) at RCC's Fran Bushman Courts.

Riverside (2-0) and its No. 3 doubles team of David Stanko (Moreno Valley / Canyon Springs HS) and Joffrey Fecomme (Tourrette Sur Loup, France) played the match of the day and sealed the team victory for the Tigers winning 8-6, giving RCC its fifth team point.

Cerritos (1-2) is a member of the South Coast Conference.

According to RCC head coach Jim Elton:

Freshmen Yann Herve (Eco Boost Award) of Lyon, France, and Patrick Stetco (Redlands / Redlands HS) got the Tigers started with convincing victories at the No. 3 and No. 4 singles spots, putting the Tigers up 2-0.

Cerritos battled back to take a 3-2 lead before freshman Conner Stephenson (Riverside / River Springs HS) made it all even at 3-3 with a 6-3, 6-0 victory at the No. 6 singles spot.

RCC's No. 2 doubles team of Herve and Sergio Romero (Riverside / Arlington HS) put the Tigers up 4-3 with a strong performance, winning 8-4.

The Tigers will return to action on Tuesday, February 4, when they visit the Mt. San Jacinto College Eagles in a non-conference match beginning at 2 p.m. before returning for a non-conference home match on Thursday, Feb. 6, at 2 p.m. against the visiting Grossmont College Griffins.
