Tigers Fight Through for 7-2 Win over Mt. San Antonio

RIVERSIDE --  Fighting through several marathon matches, the Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers men's tennis team outlasted the visiting Mt. San Antonio College (MSAC) Mounties by the score of 7-2 on Friday, February 21, in a non-conference home match at RCC's Fran Bushman Courts.

Riverside (7-1 overall), with its third consecutive victory, outlasted MSAC (0-3 overall) at Nos. 1, 2 and 6 singles, winning all three battles in three sets.

"The Tigers fought like never before, leaving a statement of 'true fighters' with the willingness to win after several marathon matches," said RCC head coach Jim Elton.

"Freshman Patrick Stetco (Redlands / Redlands HS) had his first challenge as the Tigers' No. 1 singles player, coming back from set down, and winning, 4-6, 7-6, 6-3," continued Elton.

"Freshman Jullian Siapno (Etiwanda / Etiwanda HS) also had his first challenge as Tigers' No. 6 player, added Elton.  "Jullian fought with the heart of a tiger, fighting leg cramping and winning another marathon match, 6-3, 4-6, 7-5."

The Tigers will return to Orange Empire Conference play on Tuesday, Feb. 25, on the road against the Cypress College Chargers at 2 p.m.
