Tigers Open Season With 9-0 Win at San Diego City

SAN DIEGO -- Posting shut-outs in five singles matches and one doubles match, the Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers men's tennis team opened its season in fine fashion with a 9-0 non-conference road win over the San Diego City College (SDCC) Knights Tuesday afternoon (Jan. 28).

Riverside (1-0) allowed San Diego (0-1) to win only seven games.

The Tigers will open the home portion of their schedule on Friday, Jan. 31, when they host the Cerritos College Falcons of the South Coast Conference in a non-conference contest beginning at 2 p.m.

According to RCC head coach Jim Elton:

Freshman David Stanko (Moreno Valley / Canyon Springs HS) moved into the #1 singles spot and picked up the "Eco Boost" (award) (completing the first match of the day with no waste – environmentally friendly) with a dominating win, 6-0, 6-0.

Sophomore Danny Garcia (Riverside / Arlington HS) and freshman Conner Stephenson (Riverside / River Springs HS) turned in solid performances without dropping a game in singles or doubles.

Newcomers Yann Herve (Lyon, France) and Joffrey Fecomme (Tourrette Sur Loup, France) picked up victories at the #3 and #5 singles positions without dropping a game.

Freshman Patrick Stetco (Redlands / Redlands HS) turned in the most impressive win at #4 singles, battling back from 2-5 to win his match 7-5, 6-0 and seal the team victory.
