Riverside Leads After Day 1 of Competition at Chaffey Invitational

PERRIS -- Gaining six first-place finishes, the Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers men's swimming and diving team leads after the first day of competition at the Chaffey Invitational Friday (Mar. 10) at Citrus Hill High School.

Riverside accumulated a whopping 433 points, well ahead of current second-place San Diego Mesa College (249 points). After San Diego Mesa are Palomar (124), host Chaffey (115), Grossmont (85), Mt. San Antonio (83), Rio Hondo (68) and Santa Ana (2)

RCC sophomore Maxence Bouvier (FRANCE) won the men's 200-yard individual medley with a time of 1:54.75.

RCC freshman Kyle Acevedo (Redlands - Redlands East Valley HS) won the men's 50-yard freestyle (:21.98).

RCC freshman Farouk Zaoui (TUNISIA) won the 500-yard freestyle (4:51.21).

RCC freshman Brenden Brown (Riverside - Poly HS) won the one-meter diving (212.50 points) and was second in the three-meter diving (207.00).

Riverside also won the 200-yard freestyle relay with the quartet of Bouvier, sophomore Lazar Raca (Belgrade, SERBIA), Acevedo, and freshman Jacob White (Yucaipa / Yucaipa HS) with a time of 1:27.89.

The Tigers also won the 800-yard freestyle (7:19.51) with the quartet of freshman Arnaud Magnan (FRANCE), White, Acevedo and Zaoui.

The Tigers are guided by fourth-year RCC head swimming and diving program coach Jason Northcott. Riverside finished fourth in last spring's California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Championships and hopes to improve on that finish this spring.
