Riverside Wins Own Invitational; Rohn Sets RCC Record (:20.97) in 50 Freestyle

RIVERSIDE -- Highlighted by a team record in the 50-yard freestyle, the Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers men's swimming team won its own Riverside Invitational last Friday (Apr. 1) at RCC's Riverside Aquatics Center.

In its first and only home meet of the season, Riverside won with a total of 123 points, followed by the Palomar College Comets (92 points) and the Grossmont College Griffins (56 points).

A highlight of the meet was the RCC record-setting performance in the 50-yard freestyle by sophomore Justin Rohn (San Bernardino / San Gorgonio HS '14), who is pictured, was clocked at :20.97, bettering the previous Tiger standard of :21.22, which was set by Daniel Ghomi in 2015.

"It was a remarkable performance by Justin, considering he hasn't tapered or shaved in preparation for the state championships later this month," said third-year RCC head men's swimming coach Jason Northcott.

Two Fridays ago (Mar. 25), Rohn was timed at :21.65, when he finished second in the 50-yard freestyle at the Orange Empire Conference (OEC) Invitational Meet #2, which was hosted by Fullerton College.

RCC will next compete in the OEC Diving Championships, April 14-16, which will be hosted by El Camino College. The OEC Swimming Championships will be held April 21-23, and be hosted by Fullerton College.
