Delehanty Places Tied for First in Return to Play

After a long awaited return which stretched over a year, the Riverside City College men's golf team hit the links at Spring Valley Country Club in Victor Valley for Orange Empire Conference (OEC) competition. The Tigers faced off against an always formidable field that proved as challenging as ever.

Riverside strung together a solid showing leading them to a third place finish. They notched a team score of 380 that featured all but one score in the 70s.

Mt. San Antonio placed just ahead of them with a 375, while Saddleback took home the gold after totaling a 369.

The story of the day belonged to Riverside's sophomore swinger Theoren Delehanty who tied for first place with a tournament-best two-under score of 70.

"I felt really great today," said Delehanty. "I have really improved during our off time and everything just felt comfortable today."

Delehanty, a strong returning player for the Tigers, got off two a great start. He began with two birdies on the first four holes. Despite bogeying the fifth and the sixth holes, but was able to finish strong on the front to keep his score at a manageable one under.

His card continued to look even nicer as the round continued on. Despite a bogey on 11 to nudge his score up to even, he recuperated swiftly and by chirping two of the ensuing three holes eventually leading to a steady round ending in first place.

"I put myself in good positions all day and never made a huge mistake. I did nothing great, but nothing terrible. It was a good day."

Sophomore Jordan Reynoso flirted with an even score, but landed at two-over 74. After bogeying the first two holes, he found himself in a difficult spot. Nevertheless, he finished the front nine with six pars and one bogey. His back nine was highlighted by birdies on 14 and 16 marking a four-stroke difference between his front and back nine.

Freshman Brian Bashaw had a strong inaugural showing by penciling a 77. Inconsistency haunted him throughout his round despite tallying five birdies.

The Tigers will travel to the Navy Golf Course for their next OEC match hosted by Cypress College on Wednesday, April 21 at 10 a.m.
