Men’s Golf Earns Conference Victory on Local Links

The Riverside City College golf squad hosted a conference showdown on their home links Monday afternoon at the Victoria Country Club. The Tigers earned a team stroke count of 378 to haul in their first top finish of the season.

Sophomore Brian Nielsen (Riverside, CA) paced the pack with an even 72 to tied for second overall. He put together a very consistent round as he finshed even on the front and back nine. He notched three birdies on the day – one coming on the front and two coming on the back.

Sophomore Michael Herrera (Moreno Valley, CA) followed with a two-over score of 73. He had a strong back nine that saw a pair of birdies coming on consecutive holes followed by two pars. Freshman Ryan DeHart (Riverside, CA) backed him with a 74. Despite recording one poor score on the front nine, he recovered with a total of four birdies and shot one-under on the back nine.

With the victory, Riverside pushes their overall record to 16-14 to put them in a comfortable third place in conference play. Cypress and Orange Coast are tied for the top spot with an identical record of 24-6, while Saddleback and Mt. San Antonio sit tied for fourth place with a record of 13-17.

Riverside will continue action on Wednesday, April 4th at 10 a.m. in conference play at the Coast Mesa Country Club.
