Tigers Finish Third at Irvine Valley-hosted Oak Creek Match; RCC Now Tied For First in OEC

IRVINE -- Finishing third at an Orange Empire Conference (OEC) event last Wednesday (April 19), the Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers men's golf team finds itself again in a tie atop the conference standings.

Cypress won the match with a team score of 370. The Tigers placed third at the Oak Creek Golf Club last Wednesday (Apr. 19) with a collective team score of 373, which actually was the same score as Orange Coast (373), but the tie was broken due to OCC's No. 1 player, Jeremy Dorff, shot a 79. Saddleback was fourth (401), followed by host Irvine Valley (403) and Mt. San Antonio (407).

Gaining medalist honors was George Bris of Cypress, who shot a two-under par 70.

Leading the way for RCC was sophomore Everett Najera (Corona - Corona HS '15), who shot a 71, followed by sophomore Robby Melton (Riverside - Citrus Hill HS '15), who fired a 73, and freshman Michael Herrera (Moreno Valley - Valley View HS '16), who carded a 75.

Rounding out the Tigers' scorers were sophomore Jordan Sams (Lake Arrowhead / Rim of the World HS '10) -- who is pictured -- and shot a 76, followed by sophomore Nick Bridge (Riverside - Norte Vista HS '15), who fired a 78, and freshman Brian Nielsen (Riverside - Poly HS), who carded a 79.

Riverside City (28-7 OEC) co-leads the conference standings with Cypress (28-7), followed by Orange Coast (27-8). Saddleback (12-22) is fourth, followed by Mt. San Antonio (6-29) and Irvine Valley (3-32).

Riverside will next compete on Monday, Apr. 24, when it visits the El Camino Golf Course in Oceanside.
