Tigers Win Orange Coast-hosted OEC Match; RCC Alone Atop Conference Standings

COSTA MESA -- Winning at an Orange Empire Conference (OEC) event last Wednesday (April 12), the Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers men's golf team has broken the tie atop the conference standings and is all alone in first place.

The Tigers finished first at the Costa Mesa Golf Course last Wednesday (Apr. 12) with a collective team score of 374, followed by Cypress and host Orange Coast (each at 377). Saddleback was fourth (378), followed by Mt. San Antonio (385) and Irvine Valley (412).

Gaining medalist honors was RCC sophomore Everett Najera (Corona - Corona HS '15) who shot a two-under par 70.

Rounding out the Tigers' scorers were freshman Michael Herrera (Moreno Valley - Valley View HS '16), who fired a 74, followed by sophomore Nick Bridge (Riverside - Norte Vista HS '15) and sophomore Jordan Sams (Lake Arrowhead / Rim of the World HS '10), who each shot a 76.

RCC sophomore Robby Melton (Riverside - Citrus Hill HS '15) and freshman Brian Nielsen (Riverside - Poly HS) each fired a 78.

Riverside City (25-5 OEC) leads the conference standings, followed by the Orange Coast  (23-7) and Cypress (23-7). Saddleback (11-19) is fourth, followed by Mt. San Antonio (6-24) and Irvine Valley (2-28).

Riverside will next compete on Wednesday, Apr. 19, when it visits the Oak Creek course for a OEC match hosted by Irvine Valley College.
