Tigers Place Third at MSAC-hosted OEC Match at Royal Vista's Black Gold Course April 5; RCC Tied For First in OEC Standings

WALNUT -- Placing third at an Orange Empire Conference (OEC) event April 5, the Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers men's golf team is tied atop the conference standings.

The Tigers finished third on the Black Gold course at the Royal Vista Golf Course on Wednesday, Apr. 5. Cypress won the OEC match with a collective team total of 375, followed by Orange Coast (377), Riverside City (384), Irvine Valley (394), Saddleback (399) and host Mt. San Antonio (405). The match was a makeup which was originally scheduled for Mar. 22.

Cypress' Matt Rafter won the match with a three-under par score of 69.

RCC sophomore Robby Melton (Riverside - Citrus Hill HS '15) shot a 74 to pace the Tigers, RCC sophomore Nick Bridge (Riverside - Norte Vista HS '15) was next with a 77, followed by sophomore Jordan Sams (Lake Arrowhead / Rim of the World HS '10), who shot a 78. Rounding out the rest of Riverside's finishers were freshman Brian Nielsen (Riverside - Poly HS) and freshman Michael Herrera (Moreno Valley - Valley View HS '16), who each fired a 79.

Riverside City (20-5 OEC) co-leads the conference standings with the Orange Coast College (OCC) Pirates (20-5), followed by Cypress (19-6), Saddleback (9-16), Mt. San Antonio (5-20) and Irvine Valley (2-23).

Riverside will next compete on Wednesday, Apr. 19, when it visits the Oak Creek course for a OEC match hosted by Irvine Valley College.
