Tigers Win Eagle Golf Classic with Score of 367; RCC Takes Early Lead (5-0) in Conference Standings

SAN JACINTO -- Firing a close-to-par collective 367, the Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers men's golf team won the Eagle Golf Classic, which was hosted by Mt. San Jacinto College, at the Soboba Springs Golf Course February 15.

Riverside City shot 367 to finish first, and for good measure, finished ahead of the five other Orange Empire Conference (OEC) teams, to take an early 5-0 lead in the OEC standings.

Fellow OEC member Orange Coast College (OCC) shot 372 to finish second overall (4-1, second in OEC standings), followed by Ventura College at 373, Palomar College at 380 and host Mt. San Jacinto at 381.

College of the Desert was sixth overall at 383, followed by OEC member Saddleback College at 384 (seventh overall; 3-2, third in OEC standings), Santa Barbara City College at 385, OEC member Cypress College was ninth overall at 386 (2-3, fourth in OEC standings) and newly-hosted OEC member Mt. San Antonio College was tenth at 391 (1-4, fifth in OEC standiings). OEC member Irvine Valley College was 13th overall at 412 (0-5, fifth in OEC standiings).

Leading the way was Brandon Resick of Ventura, who shot a 69 to receive medalist honors.

RCC sophomore Robby Melton (Riverside - Citrus Hill HS '15) and Palomar's Ben Smith were next with scores of 71.

RCC sophomore Everett Najera (Corona - Corona HS '15) -- who is pictured -- and sophomore Nick Bridge (Riverside - Norte Vista HS '15) each shot a 72, as did Cypress' Dylan Hall, Santa Barbara City's Theo Andre-Fruet and Ventura's Joey Herrera.

Rounding out the Riverside scoring, freshman Brian Nielsen (Riverside - Poly HS) shot a 74, freshman Michael Herrera (Moreno Valley - Valley View HS '16) carded a 78 and RCC sophomore Jordan Sams (Lake Arrowhead / Rim of the World HS '10) shot a 79.

Riverside will next compete on Monday, Feb. 27, when it hosts its Riverside Invitational at the Victoria Club at 11 a.m.
