Tigers Finish Second at Oak Creek; Enter OEC Championship Finals Monday at Los Serranos

IRVINE -- The Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers men's golf team finished second for the second time this season in an Orange Empire Conference (OEC) team match hosted by Irvine Valley College at Oak Creek Golf Course last Wednesday (Apr. 13).

The Santiago Canyon College (SCC) Hawks shot a collective team score of 373 to win the match, followed by Riverside (379) and the Orange Coast College (OCC) Pirates (381). The Cypress College Chargers (384) were fourth, the Saddleback College Gauchos (385) finished fifth and the Irvine Valley College Lasers (404) were sixth.

SCC's Michael Lascari gained medalist honors with a score of 71, followed by SCC teammate Austin Trcka, who shot a 72. OCC's Austin Briggs and SCC's James Hochsprung tied for third at 73.

RCC  freshman Sean Jay (San Bernardino / Cajon HS '14) led the Tigers as he shot a 74. Freshman Everett Najera (Corona / Corona HS '15) -- who is pictured -- was next at 75, followed by sophomore Colin McNie (Temecula / Chaparral HS '14) and freshman Jordan Sams (Lake Arrowhead / Rim of the World HS '10) tied with scores of 76. RCC sophomore Paul Bradvica (Riverside / Notre Dame HS '14) was next with a 78.

"(They) played well again at Oak Creek," said RCC head men's golf coach Steve Sigloch. "The conference championships will determine second and third place. The top three move on to the SoCal Regionals May 9."

The OEC Championship Finals should prove to be quite a battle as SCC is in second place and Saddleback and Cypress are tied for third place.

The current OEC standings appear below.

Riverside's next match will be on Monday, Apr. 25, when it participates in the OEC Championship Finals at Los Serranos in Chino Hills. There will be two 18-hole rounds (one each in the morning and afternoon)  beginning at 7 a.m.
