Tiger Finish Second at SoCal Regional; Advance to State Championships Monday

POWAY -- Posting a collective team score of 738, the Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers men's golf team finished in second place at the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Southern California Regional Championships at StoneRidge CC last Monday (May 5).

Riverside, which was in fifth place (372) after the first round of play earlier in the day, rebounded to post the second-best round of the tournament (366). The second-place overall finish (738) enabled the Tigers to advance to next week's CCCAA State Championship Tournament at RCC's home course, Victoria Country Club on Monday, May 12.

Leading the Tigers were Wes Hatton at 146 (75, 71), Eric Cross at 147 (68, 79), Chad Hambright (75, 74) and Clay Hjulberg (77, 72) at 149, Josh Roquet at 153 (77, 76) and John Swierczek at 154 (81, 73).

The College of the Canyons (COC) Cougars won the event with a collective team total of 723 (364, 360) to also advance to next week's state championship tournament.

The Orange Coast College (OCC) Pirates finished third at 743, followed by the Santa Barbara City College (SBCC) Vaqueros (751) and the College of the Desert (COD) Roadrunners (757). Rounding out the next five places were the Palomar College Comets and the Santiago Canyon College Hawks which tied for sixth place (758), the Ventura College (VC) Pirates came in eighth place (766), the Cuyamaca College Coyotes finished in ninth place (782) and the Glendale College Vaqueros rounded out the team scoring with a tenth-place total of 797.

Individually, COC's Sydney Wolf won the event with a 136 (68, 68), followed by SBCC's Felix Mory at 138 (67, 71) and Blake McPherson at 143 (70, 73), OCC's Zach Eddy at 144 (71, 73) and OCC's Marc Reyes at 145 (70, 75) and COC's Clay Chatterly at 145 (74, 71).
