Ward, Moffatt Post Double-Doubles in Season Opening Win

After narrowly missing a state championship berth last season, the Riverside City College men's basketball team started it revenge tour on Thursday night against the Pasadena City College Lancers at Ventura College's "We Play Hard" tournament. The Tigers got off to a slow start by bucketing only 22 points and facing an eight-point deficit after the first half. They turned up the gas in the second half leading to a 61-58 win.

Riverside shot a mere 25 percent from the floor in the first half, but found their stroke in the second half by shooting nearly 50 percent for 38.3 percent on the night. Both teams drained a quarter of their attempted three pointers, but Riverside dominated the boards and outrebounded the Lancers by 10.

Pasadena spoiled a 10-point lead, which they held at the 19-minute mark in the game.

Leading the charge for Riverside was freshman guard Reggie Ward who recorded a double-double in his first-career showing. He dropped 17 points, which was one point off the game high, and hauled in a game-high 15 rebounds. He did the majority of his damage at the charity stripe by going 13-for-14. He chipped in two blocks, assists and steals as well.

Sophomore point guard Courtland Moffatt played 39 minutes in the season opener and notched 10 points and gathered 10 rebounds for his first-career double-double. Freshman guard Tomi Adesiji chipped in eight points, while freshman Raymond Hawkins dropped seven points in just 12 minutes of action.

Sophomore Jalen Monroe matched the seven-point output off the bench in 22 minutes of work. Furthermore, he flirted with a double-double after racking up eight rebounds and dishing out a pair of assists.
