Riverside Lights Up Scoreboard in Route over SD Mesa
The Riverside City College men's basketball team has struggled to put together a dominate offensive showing despite starting the season on a 3-1 mark. This afternoon's contest against the San Diego Mesa College Olympians produced a different style of winning as the Tigers utilized a hot hand from the floor as seen in a 57.1 shooting percentage from the floor leading to a 113-88 victory.
It was the first time this season that the Tigers scored more than 70 points and surpassed the century mark.
It was a well-rounded effort in all facets of the contest. The Tigers put pressure on SD Mesa early by forcing them to commit 18 turnovers leading to 25 points in transition. Furthermore, Riverside doubled the Olympian's rebound total leading to 41 total boards.
All of the Riverside starters scored seven or more points with numerous options coming from inside the paint and beyond the three-point arc. The Tigers were unstoppable from long range as they shot 53.3 from three-point range with freshman guard Cam'Ron Wilson paving the way.
It was a career-day for Wilson as he was lights on the trigger by going 8-for-13 from distance leading to a 26 point showing. He took nine shots all contest and was as efficient as ever. He added a rebound and two assists in the process. Freshman guard Tyree Winborn was equally as electric from distance as he went 5-for-9 from downtown and finished with 22 points.
Three other Tigers landed in double-digit scoring. Freshman guard Mark Burns finished with 15 points in his Riverside debut, while sophomore guard CJ Clark hit five three pointers leading to a 15 points. Sophomore guard Rico Tate was the facilitator of the offense after dropping a season-high 11 assists and scoring 10 points.
While guard play was the strength, the big men followed suit. Freshman tandem Maurice Tutt and Elbert Bibbs were a force down low by commanding for 14 points and 14 rebounds. Tutu was one rebound shy of double-digits.
Riverside (4-2) will continue action on the road Wednesday, November 21 in a showdown against the Citrus College Owls at 5 p.m.
