Tigers Tame Tartars in Commanding Victory

After routing the Bethesda College Flames in the first round of the 2017 Riverside Holiday Tournament, the RCC Tigers men's basketball team looked to keep the hot streak alive in a semifinal showdown against the Compton College Tartars on Friday evening in Wheelock Gymnasium. The Tigers came out firing and established a solid 10+ point advantage stemming at the halfway point in the first half. From there, Riverside did not look back leading to a commanding 94-75 victory.

Riverside lead wire-to-wire and outplayed Compton in multiple categories. The theme of the contest was dominating the paint while forcing the Tartars to take unfamiliar shots. The Tigers outscored Compton in the paint (40-20) and owned the boards with 48 rebounds to the Tartar's 31. Additionally, Riverside thrived from beyond the arc by shooting 34.8 percent from downtown and hitting 16-of-20 shots from the charity stripe.

The starting five for Riverside all landed in double-digit points. Freshman forward Jordan Robinson (Riverside, CA) was the rim's worst enemy by rising for a trio of dunks. Freshman guard Kayn Calhoun (Riverside, CA) connected with Robinson on an alley-oop that was highlight-reel worthy. Robinson finished with a double-double by recording 22 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Sophomore guard Rahmell Greene (Citrus Valley, CA) followed with a season-high 16 points that included a flawless 5-for-5 from the free throw line.

Sophomore guard Andre Wilson (Colton, CA) finished with 18 total points. He scored in multiple ways by driving the lane and hitting the three-ball. He went 6-for-8 from the charity stripe as well. Sophomore forward Kane Daniels (Blythe, CA) earned a double-double as well by reeling in 10 boards and finishing with 10 points.

The Tigers (7-4) will face off against the East Los Angeles Huskies in the championship game on Saturday, December 9th at 4 p.m.
