Fullerton Keeps Host Riverside at Bay in 70-65 Orange Empire Conference Win Over Tigers Wednesday
RIVERSIDE -- Julian Richardson canned four free throws in the last half-minute of play to lift the visiting Fullerton College (FC) Hornets to a 70-65 Orange Empire Conference (OEC) road win over the host Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers men's basketball team Wednesday evening (Jan. 13) at legendary Arthur N. Wheelock Gymnasium on the RCC campus.
Richardson, a sophomore guard from Woodland Hills (El Camino Real HS), made a pair of free throws with 16.7 seconds left and then added another pair of charities with 6.9 seconds to extend what was then a modest 66-65 Fullerton lead. Richardson, who had 13 points in the first half, finished with a game-high 29 points and also added four rebounds and four assists.
Fullerton (14-4,overall, 1-1 OEC) never trailed in the game. Freshman guard Ian Fox (Redondo Beach / Redondo Union HS) added 15 points, while sophomore guard Blake McBride (Laders Ranch / J. Serra HS) added 11 points -- all in the first half.
Riverside (9-10 overall, 1-2 OEC) was led by freshman guard Tramel Wilson (Hawthorne / Washington Prep. HS), who came off the bench to pump in 19 points on seven-of-ten shooting, including five three-pointers. Sophomore guard Antonio Mayfield (Milwaukee, WI) added 13 points and sophomore forward Sage Woodruff (Los Angeles / Fairfax HS '14) chipped in with 12 markers.
Riverside returns to action on Friday, Jan. 15, when it faces the Cypress College Chargers in a 5 p.m. tipoff.
