RIVERSIDE – Leading for nearly the entire game, the host Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers men's basketball team leveled its Orange Empire Conference (OEC) record with a 75-58 win over the Cypress College Chargers Friday evening (Jan. 17) at Wheelock Gymnasium.
Riverside (8-13, 2-2 in OEC) led 35-28 at halftime, and cruised as it built its biggest lead at 68-49 with 3:45 left. Four Tigers scored in double figures, led by sophomore forward Anthony Rounds (Perris // Citrus Hill HS) with 14 points and a game-high nine rebounds. RCC sophomore forward D.J. Muepo (Los Angeles / Dorsey HS) was next with 11 points, while freshman guards Antonio Mayfield (Milwaukee, WI / Richland HS) and Raymond Nelson (California School for the Deaf, Riverside) each tossed in ten markers.
For Cypress (6-13, 1-3 OEC), sophomore guard David Gonzalez (West Covina / West Covina HS) led the Chargers with a game-high 27 points as he displayed an assortment of acrobatic moves to the basket.
After a bye from OEC action on Wednesday, Jan. 22, Riverside will return to action on Friday, Jan. 24, when it hosts the Irvine Valley College Lasers.
