Riverside City College Tigers 82, San Diego Miramar College Jets 69 (non-conference):
RIVERSIDE – Robert James opened the game with a pair of three-point baskets and the host Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers men's basketball team led from start to finish in an 82-69 non-conference home win over the visiting San Diego Miramar College Jets, 82-69, in a non-conference game Tuesday evening (Nov. 19) at Wheelock Gymnasium.
Riverside City (2-5) built leads of 8-0, 10-2, and, 22-9, en route to a 40-29 halftime lead.
James, a sophomore shooting guard from Palm Springs HS, knocked down a team-high 12 points in the opening stanza. He finished with a team-high 19 points on six-of-12 shooting from the floor, including five three-point baskets. Freshman forward Taj Adams (Los Angeles / Fairfax HS) and sophomore forward D.J. Muepo (Rancho Cucamonga / Los Angeles – Dorsey HS) each dropped in 17 points to give the Tigers scoring balance. Adams had a game-high 14 rebounds and Muepo had three blocked shots.
For San Diego Miramar (2-2), the Jets were led by sophomore guard-forward Jeremiah Townes (Beachwood, OH / Spire Preparatory HS) with a game-high 32 points (on 12-of-15 field goals) and a team-high seven rebounds.
With the win, the Tigers brought their five-game losing streak to a halt.
Both teams will be idle for the rest of this week and then some. S.D. Miramar will return to action on Friday, Nov. 29, against the Los Angeles Harbor College Sea Hawks in the Palomar Tournament. Riverside will have 2-1/2 weeks off until Saturday, Dec. 7, when it hosts the College of Southern Idaho in a non-conference home game at 7 p.m.
