Jacob Marroquin Named SCFA Special Teams Player of the Week

The aftershock of freshman kicker Jacob Marroquin's game-winning field goal on Saturday night continues to shake the Inland Empire.

After Maroquinn's incredible, clutch moment in a 40-38 win over Cerritos, he has been named the Southern California Football Association (SCFA) Special Teams Player of the Week.

Marroquin had yet to attempt a field goal the entire season and was thrown into the fire with six second left on the game clock and the season on the line.

There were two possible outcomes prior to the game's final snap; make the kick and send the Tigers to the playoffs for an SCFA record eight-consecutive seasons, or miss and send the Tigers home packing with a good chance of missing out on a chance at another state title. He chose the first option by booting home the 36-yard field goal with ease.

Earlier in the game, he was 2-for-3 on extra point attempts to go along with three kickoffs for 142 yards.

Marroquin is the fourth Tiger to be named the Player of the Week this season. He joins Ricardo Chavez (Week Three- Special Teams), Carlton Johnson (Week Three – Defense) and Lawrence Starks (Week Eight - Offense).
