Football Season Opener Cancelled

The No. 2 ranked and defending National Champion Riverside City College football team will have to wait one more week to begin its season after this Saturday afternoon's scheduled showdown against the Mt. San Jacinto College Eagles has been postponed due to COVID-19.

The Riverside County Health department directed a quarantine mandate on the Eagles' roster after five positive COVID cases. MSJC's quarantine will last two weeks, forcing the Eagles to cancel their first two weeks of action.

As for the Tigers, they are in the clear and are looking forward to a September 11 showdown against No. 11 Long Beach City College.

"It's an unfortunate situation with Mt. San Jacinto having to cancel," said Head Coach Tom Craft. "This is the type of thing that could happen at any time during the season. But at this point, we adjust, adapt and move on to the next test which is Long Beach."

Riverside is anxiously awaiting to hit the gridiron after a much anticipated return. They currently rank second in the JC Athletic BuCoaches poll and the College Football America Yearbook's Preseason JUCO Top-30.
