No. 2 Riverside Rolls Long Beach in Commanding Conference Victory

The No. Riverside City College football team has been nearly unstoppable for the extent of the season thus far. The Tigers are one of just two undefeated teams remaining in the state and they looked to remain unbeaten by playing host to the Long Beach City College Vikings in a Southern California Football Association (SCFA) Central Division battle on Saturday night under the lights at Wheelock Stadium. The scoreboard read all Riverside through the entirety of the game as the Tigers steamrolled the Vikings by the final score of 51-14.

It is hard to pinpoint the strongest aspect of the Tiger's game on Saturday night due to their utter domination in all major categories – offense, defense, special teams, and the penalty battle.

The Tigers' defense held the Vikings to a lowly average of 4.4 yards-per-play. Additionally, they halted them to a 31% third down efficiency. Offensively, the Tigers dominated on all fronts with the obvious point spread differential. While the Vikings recorded more passing yards than the Vikings, the Tigers dominated them in the ground game by recording 235 more rushing yards on the same exact amount of attempts for both squads.

There were numerous contributors to the Tigers' success with sophomore quarterback Vic Viramontes (Norco, CA) leading the charge once again. He played the first three quarters and still managed to rush for over 100 yards for the sixth time this season. He finished off the first half with a two-yard scurry to the house and then followed with an incredible 35-yard rushing touchdown early in the second quarter.

His arm was equally as impressive by tossing a pair of touchdown passes. He found freshman wide receiver Tyrone Marshall (Los Angeles, CA) for a 17-yard connection in the second half to extend an already sizable lead. He followed in the third quarter with a fourth down jump pass to sophomore tight end Woody Brandom (Corona, CA) for a red zone score.

Freshman wide receiver and punt returner Tanarious Achan (Lafayette, LA) ignited the Tigers for the opening score as he returned the opening punt of the game to the crib for a 78-yard score. It is his first-career punt return touchdown. He finished the game with four returns for 110 yards.

Sophomore quarterback Travis Jonsen (Anaheim, CA) accounted for the final score for the Vikings by scrambling for a 74-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter. He finished the game with six carries for 128 yards.

Freshman linebacker Jash Allen (Portland, OR) paced a stout defense highlighted by a 49-yard pick six. He finished with six tackles – four going as solo stuffs. Sophomore defensive back Devanere Crenshaw (Riverside, CA) was a monster in the secondary. He led the squad in tackles with eight.

The Tigers (9-0, 3-0 SCFA Central) will wrap up regular season action on Saturday, November 11th against the Mt. San Antonio Mounties on the road at 6 p.m.
