Acda Leads Trio of Riverside RBs with 100+ Net Rushing Yards, Tigers Win, 42-21, versus El Camino at Redondo Union H.S. Saturday

REDONDO BEACH – Leading from start to finish, the visiting Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers football team won, 42-21, in a National Central (Conference) League (NCL) game over the host El Camino College (ECC) Warriors Saturday evening (Oct. 3) at Redondo Union HIgh School's Sea Hawk Bowl.

Riverside (4-0 overall, 1-0 NCL) was coming off a bye and should retain the top spot in the next California Community College Football Coaches Association (CCCFCA) poll after opening the season at No. 3 in the state.

The Tigers had three running backs finish with 100 net rushing yards or more, led by freshman RB Seth Acda (Murrieta / Vista Murrieta HS) who had 159 net rushing yards on 14 carries (zero TD) with a long gain of 70 yards in the fourth quarter.

Also rushing for 100 net rushing yards were sophomore RB Christopher Anderson (Hemet / West Valley HS) had 12 carries for 158 net rushing yards and one TD, a 96-yard scoring scamper in the first quarter, and sophomore RB Dontel James (Fontana / Summit HS), who finished with 18 carries (two TDs) for 103 net rushing yards and a long gain of 25 yards.

Anderson's 96-yard TD run opened the scoring with 2:54 left in the opening stanza. Freshman PK Aidan McCarley (Riverside / M.L. King HS) kicked home the first of six point after touchdown (PAT) kicks and RCC led, 7-0.

James' first TD run, from 19 yards out early in the second quarter, and McCarley's second PAT kick gave RCC a 14-0 lead with 14:53 left in the first half.

RCC built a 28-7 lead and led, 28-14, at halftime. ECC crept to within 28-21 late in the third quarter before two TDs early in the fourth quarter helped RCC pull away en route to the final score of 42-21.

Riverside starting sophomore QB Kevin Olsen (Wayne Hills, NJ) completed 11 of 24 passes with one interception5 for 90 yards and two TDs. Sophomore WR K.J. Young led with three receptions for 36 yards with a long gain of 21 yards (zero TD).

With the win, RCC now trails in the all-time series at 8-13.

Riverside will take a break from NCL action next Saturday, Oct. 10, when it visits the host Fullerton College Hornets at Yorba Linda High School at 5 p.m. Against Fullerton, RCC leads in the all-time series, 36-24-1.
