Riverside Shuts Out Santa Ana

Riverside City College shut down defending 3C2A Champions Santa Ana College Thursday with a 2-0 victory to even the Orange Empire Conference series at 1-1.

The Tigers improve to 22-11 overall and 7-7 in the OEC, while the Dons drop to 25-7-1 on the year and 9-5 in conference.

Ryan Jenkins threw a complete game shutout on the mound for the Tigers, grabbing his fifth win with two strikeouts.

Eddie Alfaro led Riverside with a 2-for-4 showing at the plate, with one RBI. Parker Sobiesiak, Alex Gamez and Dane Lujan also had hits for the Tigers.

After four and a half scoreless innings, Lujan came in to pinch hit for Riverside and blasted a double to left center. The Tigers loaded the bases and with two outs, Alfaro knocked a hard-to-handle ball to shortstop. The Don tried to get the runner at third but overthrew the throw, allowing both Lujan and Marcus Moyer to score the only runs of the game.

RCC and Santa Ana finish the OEC series on Friday at 1 p.m. back at Evans Park.
