Tigers Sprint Past Lasers

Riverside City College opened its three-game series with Irvine Valley College Tuesday afternoon with a 13-4 victory.

The Tigers improve to 20-9 overall and 5-5 in the Orange Empire Conference. The Lasers drop to 10-19 on the year, 1-9 in conference.

RCC had 13 hits in the game, led by Parker Sobiesiak's 3-for-5 (two runs, two RBIs) performance at the plate. Eddy Alfaro went 2-for-4 with two runs and four RBIs, while Richard Tejeda (two runs), Marc DiCarlo, Jr (one run), and Marcus Moyer (two runs, one RBI) also had two hits for the Tigers. Ian Nguyen and Gage Gonzales each had one hit for Riverside.

IVC took the lead in the bottom of the fourth, but it was the last time RCC would let the home team score.

In the top of the fifth with two outs, Alfaro singled aboard and came home on a Laser error before Nguyen knocked an RBI base hit to send Tejeda home for the go-ahead run, 5-4.

The Tigers added two insurance runs in the seventh before exploding for five runs in the eighth as Alfaro drilled a grand slam with two outs to all but seal the 13-4 victory.

Dakota Gray picked up the win on the mound for the Tigers, allowing just one earned run.

Riverside and IVC continue the series on Thursday at 2 p.m. back home at Evans Field.
