No. 3 Riverside Exits Playoffs in Game Two Loss

The Riverside City College baseball team faced a win or go home scenario on Saturday morning as they faced off against the No. 22 Grossmont College Griffins in the first round of the 3C2A Southern Regional Championships. The Tigers went down early and could not recover leading to a 4-2, season-ending loss.

Riverside was no-hit through 4.1 innings until sophomore right fielder Matthew Bardowell broke up the no-no with a single up the middle. The Tigers etched their first run a batter later compliments of a sacrifice fly out from sophomore left fielder Adrian Arechiga, scoring sophomore center fielder Casey Murray Jr. Freshman designated hitter Dominic Dominguez followed with a single through the right side to send Bardowell home to pull within one run.

From then on, Riverside was blanked leading to the loss.

Dominguez went 2-for-2 with an RBI to act as the lone hitter with multiple base knocks. Arechiga had the other RBI along with Dominguez.

Sophomore starting pitcher Albert Roblez (3-3) lasted 3.2 innings and allowed three runs, one earned, and one strikeout. Sophomore reliever Christopher Fields tossed 4.1 innings of strong baseball leading to four strikeouts.

Riverside finishes its season with an overall record of 28-13 encompassing a 15-6 conference clip. It is the seventh-consecutive season the Tigers won 20 or more games excluding the shortened COVID season. They earned 16 wins prior to the shutdown.
