Sachs Tosses Complete-Game Shutout in Win over Crosstown Rival

It was a cold Wednesday afternoon in the friendly confines of Evans Sports Complex as the Riverside City College baseball team hosted crosstown rival San Bernardino Valley College in non-conference play. The bats for both sides were quiet due in part to a pitcher's duel. It was freshman starter Ethan Sachs who outdueled the Wolverines as he chucked a complete-game shutout leading to a 1-0 Riverside win.

Sachs was downright dominant throughout the contest as he allowed just three baserunners throughout the entire game. After San Bernardino recorded their first hit of the game in the top of the second inning, Sachs followed by retiring the next 11 batters in a row. When he did allow another base runner in the top of the sixth inning, freshman catcher Angel Mendoza promptly picked him off at first base on a back pick.

Riverside needed just one run to seal the deal and they pushed across the lone run of the game in the bottom of the fifth inning. After two quick outs, freshman third baseman Matthew Ivancich extended the inning with a double. Freshman first baseman Jonathan Ho followed with a single up the middle to plate Ivancich and grabbed a 1-0 lead.

Sachs closed the final two innings by retiring six batters in a row leading to the 1-0 win. He was electric on the bump as he fanned six batters in the process while throwing under 100 pitches.

Riverside (9-4) will continue action on Thursday, February 21 against The Mt. San Jacinto College Eagles on the road at 2 p.m., pending weather conditions. Stay tuned to www.rccathletics.com for up-to-date information.
