Daniel Martinez named SoCal Player of the Week

It was recently announced that sophomore pitcher and designated hitter Daniel Martinez (Riverside, CA) was named the California Community College Baseball Coaches Association (CCCBCA) Southern California Player of the week.

Martinez, a Division I bounce back from University of California Riverside, has solidified himself as a top player for the Tigers in the early stages of the season. He has helmed a 4-1 start for the Tigers by wearing a number of hats.

Martinez enjoyed a week in which he recorded his first-career win on the bump over the defending state champion Grossmont College Griffins. He tossed six innings and scattered just three hits while bringing a no hitter into the fourth inning. He fanned five batters in his outing as well. Two games prior, he came in and recorded a save against Palomar after retiring the side in order and striking out one batter.

At the dish, Martinez has been equally as impressive. He has gone 5-for-10 with three doubles, four RBI, five runs scored, and three walks. Martinez is currently hitting .353 which includes a .593 on-base percentage and a .529 slugging percentage.

The Tigers are in action today at 5 p.m. as they face off against the East Los Angeles Huskies at home in hopes to earn their fifth-straight victory.
